MFU.1 Winchester Model 1866 Carbine SOLD A nice Second model 44. rimfire Carbine made in 1869 and special factory ordered with a rifle buttstock having the takedown cleaning rod still in it. The iron has a nice mellow age brown and has not been abused. The lever is a little bit loose with the tang worn so it no longer extends under the locking nut. Fine mellow brass frame has a few scratches but is not beat up. Flip up leaf sight. The wood has a pressed spot on the forearm, a slight 1/4" chip a the top of the stock and a little wear at the end of the butt. This is a wonderful example in uncleaned untouched condition better than usually encountered for its age and utilitarian function. II       [Click here to Order]

MFU.2 Roberts Conversion Civil War Musket $1100.00 This is an extremely rare gun with only 5000 ever produced. The conversion was done by the Providence Tool Company in Rhode Island and the entire contract was purchased by the state of South Carolina for issue to the Reconstruction period guard and militia. The intrigue involved in this sale and subsequent usage is a whole other story with no not enough space to relate it here. This is a nice three band musket with triple leaf sights and the lock plate stamped with the eagle U.S. and Providence Tool Co. Providence R.I. The Roberts loading and locking system is one of the more unique encountered and was created to use the .58 Roberts cartridge. The metal has some expected pitting and nice age patina. South Carolina was quite impoverished at this period of time and could not afford the extravagance of replacement parts. Consequently they had a full time carpenter and one of his duties was to repaired damaged gun stocks. The butt of this specimen was damaged and repaired by cutting and completely replacing the back half of the butt stock. This repair was a superb job and shows its age totally consistent with the rest of the gun. Phased out in the 1870's the survival rate of these weapons was very low. One of the most unique and scarce firearms you will encounter from this tumultious period in American history. II [Click here to Order]
